DUCCIO BERTINI – BRUBECK RELOADED (ENCORE MUSIC, BD 1919)
This suite of pieces based on themes by Dave Brubeck and his own “Ending” are more than arrangements in the usual sense. Listening felt like a cinematic experience. Duccio Bertini created expansive spaces and dramatic moments for his liberated yet sensitive soloists. Improvisation and orchestration is fully integrated.
Maestro Bertini has continued on the road that began with my father’s collaborations with Leonard Bernstein in the 1950s, and I’m sure Dave would have been very pleased with this 21st-century treatment of his music.
