The Ognissanti Suona il Jazz 2022 Festival inaugurates for the 5th edition a new production dedicated to symphonic jazz, that is to that genre that arises from the union of jazz and classical music.
The repertoire of the concert arranged by Duccio Bertini will make us listen to jazz songs in a new and original orchestral dimension, all enriched by the presence of the magnificent American soloist Dick Oatts as guest of the project.
Dick Oatts is considered one of the greatest interpreters of the jazz saxophone as well as being a prestigious teacher. Called in 1977 by Thad Jones to join the legendary Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra, which later became the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Oatts has released more than a dozen albums as a leader and co-leader, and has appeared on over 100 albums as sideman with the likes of Joe Henderson, Jerry Bergonzi, Eddie Gómez, Bob Brookmeyer, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Joe Lovano and others, also accompanying Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan, Mel Tormé and Ella Fitzgerald. Oatts has taught at the Manhattan School of Music and as a resident artist at the Amsterdam Conservatory as well as being the Artistic Director of the Jazz Studies Department at Temple University in Philadelphia.
