BLUE NOTE BRASS SEXTET PLUS DRUM – LA MUSICA DI HORACE SILVER (JazzOp JOR008 2025 CD)

The Blue Note Brass Sextet plus Drums is one of several “small-to-medium” ensembles revolving around the Blue Note Orchestra Association (Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna).
It is an unusual lineup—comprising five brass instruments (two trumpets, trombone, French horn, and tuba), a saxophone, and drums—that has few precedents in the jazz tradition; there are no polyphonic instruments like piano or guitar, and the tuba effectively handles the double bass role, yet the group delivers the sound of a much larger ensemble, thanks to Duccio Bertini’s excellent arrangements.
